It should be no surprise that Halifax is home to a strong cluster of oceans industries and groundbreaking marine research given the city’s strategic location on North America’s east coast, the focus of our universities and community college, and the depth of our science-based workforce.
June 3-8, Nova Scotia will host Oceans Week 2013, a celebration of the powerful role, and the incredible potential, of the oceans sector in our economy, environment and culture. A number of Oceans related activities and events are happening across the province culminating on World Oceans Day, Saturday June 8th.
On Thursday, June 6, stakeholders from around the globe will come together in Halifax for one of the strongest gatherings of oceans knowledge and power the city has ever seen. Leaders and visionaries in the oceans industry - ocean researchers, companies, government, students and others wanting to explore a career in the oceans sector - will come together to share knowledge, explore opportunities and harness potential on all levels. The day will feature a Career Fair and Industry Showcase, B2B meetings, seminars and a Gala Dinner celebration.
The Greater Halifax Partnership is proud to support the Oceans Career Fair taking place from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. During this time, the Partnership will host Nova Scotia Ocean Connections 2013 – a unique speed-interviewing and networking event for immigrants, local and international student graduates, researchers, and companies. Representatives from over 30 oceans sector companies and 40 participants from the Partnership’s Connector Program will explore opportunities for industrial student training, research collaborations and employment. All participants are welcome to attend afternoon presentations featuring speakers from Irving, MAN Diesel & Turbo Canada Ltd. and more.
Companies exhibiting at the Industry Showcase will have access to local researchers, highly qualified (or soon to be highly qualified) potential employees and for B2B meetings with international companies attending the event. Click here for information on registering a booth.
The day will end on a high note with the Oceans Gala Dinner featuring keynote speaker Dr Harry Kolar, Distinguished Engineer – Sensor-Based Solutions, Technical Solution Architect, IBM Research.
Don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of a global oceans week celebration and to preview the latest developments in Nova Scotia’s Oceans sector.
